The Town of Rockingham seeks an individual to coordinate special events in the Bellows Falls Opera House in Bellows Falls, Vermont. This is a part-time position of twenty hours a week, plus events, with some weekends and long hours. Preference will be given to candidates with with a knowledge of the local community and regional entertainment market and extensive experience in theater management, production, and arts administration. Applicants should be detail-oriented, have the ability to work in a fact paced environment, and be able to deal effectively with the public. Theater Events Coordinator Responsibilites

 

Administration: Ability to be detail-oriented, work in a fact paced environment, and communicate effectively.

 

  • Works under the administrative direction of the Municipal Manager/Development/Theater Committee.

 

  • Manages the scheduling of special events in the Bellows Falls Opera House and occasionally the Women’s Club room. 

 

  • Works under municipal policies and standards for use of the Opera House and advises Town on the possible modification of these policies.

 

  • Writes press releases and promotes the use of the Opera House and Women’s Club room for live musical and theatrical performances, films, lectures, meetings, and conferences. 

 

·        Updates Opera House website and sends out a monthly e-newsletter.

 

·        Creates and distributes posters promoting in-house theater events.

 

  • Seeks and writes grants to promote use of Opera House and serves as the Town’s liaison with performing arts community.

 

  • Sells and negotiates contracts with local businesses for showing ads before the movies.

 

  • Computer skills required: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Word Press, and Constant Contact skills.

 

Event Coordination: Experience in theater management and production.

 

  • Obtains 20-25 theater bookings per year (with a preference for Wednesdays/Thursday evenings and Saturday/Sunday afternoons) and acts as the Town Representative for these events.

 

  • Masters technical operations (theatrical lighting, rigging) and serves as Technical Manager for events, OR arranges for technical training for lessees. Oversees use of Town equipment.

 

·        Light, physical effort to perform duties under typical working conditions. Some work required evenings, weekends, and long hours.

 

  • Consults with Theater Manager to coordinate events with regular movie schedule.

 

  • Consults with Town Administration about physical issues with the facility, and to schedule cleaning/maintenance of Opera House, Women’s Club, and dressing room.

 

Community Interaction: Ability to deal effectively and openly with the public, local community and regional entertainment market.

 

  • Consults with Theater Committee (composed of residents, theater supporters with Select Board member) as sounding board for rental applications, scheduling, policies, and rental rates.

 

  • Runs the Friends of the Opera House, a community membership/volunteer organization, and holds quarterly meetings with this group.

 

·        Makes frequent contact with the performing arts community, general public, town staff, and news media.

 

·        Holds at least one Opera House Open House per year, free for the public with tours and information available.
